Sebastian Smolyn (born 1975) is an instrumentalist and composer. He studied classical music, instrumental pedagogy in Luebeck (Germany), Weimar (Germany), Basel (Switzerland), Winterthur (Switzerland), Zuerich (Switzerland) and Marseille (France). He graduated at the Musikhochschule in Zuerich. He performed and participated in numerous festivals in Switzerland, Germany and France. Having gathered the experience playing classical music both solo and with various orchestras and ensembles he started to compose and play his own music. Since 2003 he has been playing experimental, improvised and electronic music. He has worked with Hans Koch, Fredy Studer, Martin Schuetz, Joke Lanz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Wolfgang Rihm, Mike Svoboda, Dominik Dolega, Samuel Duehsler, Wojciech Garbowski, Lorenzo Bianchi and Peter Brötzmann. Currently he has been working with two trio projects: "Defibrillator" (with his brother Artur Smolyn and the drummer Oliver Steidle from Berlin) and "Noisezone" (with Artur Smolyn and the drummer Daniel Buess from Basel). Sebastian Smolyn lives and works in Basel.
